Requires Powercode build 26.10.05 or later.
Modules add optional pages and features to Powercode. The Module Manager lists the modules installed on your server and lets you turn them on and off. For example, the SSL Certificate page comes from the SSL Configuration module. See SSL Module.
From 26.10.05, using the Module Manager needs its own permission. In earlier builds any signed-in user could open it and turn modules on or off. This release also stops a single broken module from taking down the admin portal, and makes enabling and disabling modules reliable.
Config > Modules
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Manage Modules (Modules → Module Manager) at View | To see the Modules menu link and the list of modules. |
| Manage Modules (Modules → Module Manager) at Edit | To enable, disable and re-initialize modules, and to rescan the module directory. Without it, those buttons are not shown. |
The upgrade to 26.10.05 gives the Administrator and Owner permission groups Manage Modules at Edit. Other groups have no access until you give it to them at Config > Permissions. See System Configuration - Permissions.
A module's own pages can need their own permission too. For example, the SSL Certificate menu link and page need SSL Certificate (Modules → SSL) at Edit.
The Module Manager page shows how many modules are enabled and installed, then a table:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Key | The module's short name. Click it to open the module's details. |
| Module Name | The full name and author. Click it to open the module's details. |
| Version | The module's version. |
| Enabled? | Enabled, or No. |
| Size on disk | How much space the module and its data use. |
| Actions | Visit Page opens the module's page, when the module is enabled, loads correctly and has a page. |
With Edit, a Rescan Module Directory button is shown at the bottom.
| Action | Shown when | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Enable | The module is disabled | Runs the module's setup, such as adding its menu links, and turns it on. You see The module has been enabled. If the module fails to start, it is left disabled, any menu links it added are removed, and you see The module could not be enabled. Check the error log for the reason. |
| Disable | The module is enabled and can be disabled | Turns the module off and removes its menu links. Its pages and API calls stop working. Confirm Are you sure you want to disable this module? You see The module has been disabled. |
| Re-initialize | The module is enabled | Runs the module's setup again without turning it off, for example to put back a missing menu link. You see The module has been re-initialized. |
| Visit Page | The module is enabled and has a page | Opens the module's page. |
The page reloads after each action.
Powercode Module Manager cannot be disabled, because it is the only page that turns modules back on. Its Disable button is greyed out and the page says This module cannot be disabled.
Rescan Module Directory looks at the modules installed on the server and updates the list:
Click Rescan Module Directory, confirm, and Powercode shows Module re-scan complete. with a log of each module it found. You only need this when modules have been added to or removed from the server.
If a module's code fails to load or start, Powercode skips that module, writes the reason to the server's error log, and loads the rest of the admin portal as normal. Before 26.10.05, one broken module could stop the whole admin portal from loading.
A broken module shows like this:
If a module you rely on shows these signs, disable it if you don't need it, and contact Powercode support.
The upgrade to 26.10.05 removes two modules, along with any menu links they added:
| Module | Why |
|---|---|
| Powercode Debugging Module (Debug) | Removed for security. Powercode's Debug Mode setting is not affected. |
| Powercode Subscriber App Support (SubscriberAppSupport) | Replaced by Powercode's built-in subscriber API. |
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Config > Modules is not in the menu | You do not have Manage Modules at View or higher. |
