By default, Customer Tags and Customer Groups can only be modified by users with Administrator or Owner User Permissions.
Powercode allows you to add any number of identifying Customer Tags to your Customer accounts.
Navigate to Admin Mode > Accounts > Customer Tags
Here you can add Customer Tags or edit and delete existing Customer Tags. To add a new Customer Tag enter the name of the Customer Tag in the New Tag field and click the Add button.
Navigate to the Customer account. Then click the Edit button next to the text Account Profile.
Between Group and Account Type fields will be the option to enter Customer Tags. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and save any changes. Only Customer Tags currently present in the system will be available for assignment.
Requires Powercode build 26.10.05 or later.
Three tools add tags to many customers at once:
| Tool | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Add Tags to Customers on Accounts > Customer Tags | You already have a list of customer IDs, for example in a spreadsheet. It only adds tags. See Adding Customer Tags from a CSV File below. |
| Bulk Tag Customers | You want to choose customers with a query or a saved custom report, preview them, then add or remove tags. |
| Customer Tags Report | You want to choose customers by the tags they already carry, for example to take a tag off everyone who has it. |
The Add Tags to Customers section at the bottom of Accounts > Customer Tags adds tags to customers from a CSV file. Each row names one customer and one tag, both by ID number.
An example file:
CustomerID,TagID
1042,3
1043,3
1043,7
| Column | What to put in it |
|---|---|
| First | The customer's ID number. |
| Second | The tag's ID number. Tag names are not accepted. |
Any further columns are ignored.
The header row is optional. Powercode only treats the first row as a header when its first cell is exactly CustomerID (capitalization does not matter, but there is no space). Any other header, such as Customer ID, is read as a customer and appears in the results as a harmless Customer (#Customer ID) not found line.
Finding tag IDs. Tag IDs are not shown on the Customer Tags page. To list them, create a custom report on the Reports dashboard with this query:
SELECT TagID, TagName FROM CustomerTag
| Row | Result |
|---|---|
| The customer and tag exist, and the customer does not have the tag yet | The tag is added and counted in the summary. |
| The customer already has the tag | Skipped quietly. It is not counted and not reported as a problem. |
| No customer has that ID | Skipped, and listed as Customer (#ID) not found. |
| No tag has that ID | Skipped, and listed as Tag (#ID) not found. |
| A blank line | Listed as Customer (#) not found. |
| The tag could not be saved for another reason | Skipped, and the error message is listed. |
A problem on one row never stops the rest of the file. After fixing the problem rows you can upload the whole file again: rows that already worked are skipped, because those customers already have the tag.
Each Customer may be added to a single Customer Group.
Navigate to Admin Mode > Accounts > Customer Groups
Here you can add Customer Groups or edit and delete existing Customer Groups. To add a new Customer Groups click the Add New Customer Group button. You may also use the Select an action dropdown on the right to rename or delete a Customer Group.
Navigate to the Customer account. Then click the Edit button next to the text Account Profile.
Between Referred By and Customer Tags fields is a dropdown allowing you to select a Customer Group. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and save any changes. Only Customer Groups currently present in the system will be available for assignment.
