Requires Powercode build 26.10.05 or later.
The Customer Tags report shows how many customers carry each tag, lists the customers carrying the tags you choose, and lets you add or remove tags on them in bulk. It is the quickest way to clean up a tag, for example to take an expired promotion tag off everyone who still has it.
It does not involve SQL, so you do not need Custom Reports rights to use it. To choose customers by anything other than their tags, such as status, service or location, use Bulk Tag Customers instead.
Open Reports and click Customer Tags under Customer Reports.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Reports Dashboard (Reports → Dashboard) | To open the Reports dashboard. |
| Tags (System → Users) at View | To see the Customer Tags tile and open the report. |
| Customer List (System → Dashboard) | To open the report, because it lists customers. Without it the tile still shows, but opening it is refused. |
| Tags at Edit | To add tags. |
| Tags at Delete | To remove tags. |
| Custom Reports (Reports → Custom) at Edit | Only to save the list as a report with Create Report. |
Each level includes the ones below it, so Delete on Tags lets you both add and remove. By default the Administrator and Owner groups have all of these. The Manager group has Tags but not Customer List by default, so Managers see the tile but cannot open it.
Every customer carrying the tags is listed whatever their status, in customer ID order.
The customers appear under Matched Customers. Everyone starts out ticked.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Customer ID | Click it to open the customer in a new tab. |
| Name | The customer's name, or their company name if they have no name. |
| Status | The customer's status. |
| Current Tags | Every tag the customer has, not only the ones you listed by. |
| Effect | What Apply will do to this customer once you choose tags: Will add, Will remove, No change (they already are as requested) or Not selected (they are unticked). |
Export CSV downloads every listed customer, from all pages, with the same columns.
Create Report saves your tag selection as a custom report on the Reports dashboard. The saved report is not a frozen copy of today's list: each time it runs, it lists whoever carries those tags at that moment, with their customer ID, name, company, status and tags. Its description names the tags, for example Customers carrying any of: Promo, Fiber. You need Custom Reports at Edit to see this button. A saved report like this can also be chosen as the source on Bulk Tag Customers.
If you change the tags or the any/all choice, the list disappears and you need to click List Customers again.
Only the tags you choose are touched. Adding never takes any other tag away, and removing only takes away the tags you chose.
Customers who no longer match leave the list. When you remove a tag the list is drawn from, the customers who no longer match your tag selection drop off, and a note says how many left and how many are still listed. If nobody is left, the note tells you to list customers again to see what still carries the tags. Adding tags never removes anyone from the list.
Everyone drops off the list once the tag is gone. To delete the tag itself, go to Accounts > Customer Tags.
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| The Customer Tags tile is not on the Reports dashboard | You are missing Tags. |
| You do not have the appropriate permission to view this page. Please contact your administrator for assistance | You have Tags but not Customer List. |
| Choose at least one tag to list customers by. | List Customers was clicked with no tags chosen. |
| No customers carry that tag selection. | Nobody has those tags. With Carrying all selected tags, nobody has every one of them together. |
| That tag selection matched more than 5,000 customers. Please narrow it. | See Limitations. |
| Add tags or Remove tags is greyed out | You need Tags at Edit to add, or at Delete to remove. |
| Apply stays greyed out | No tags are chosen under Apply Tags, none of the ticked customers would change, or you lack the permission for the chosen action. |
| Create Report is missing | You need Custom Reports at Edit. |
| This run does not match a recent preview. Preview the query again before applying. | Your list has expired, for example because you logged out. Click List Customers again. |
| N customer(s) failed. with a Retry N failed button | Those customers could not be updated. The first ten are listed with the reason. Customer not found means the customer no longer exists. Retry sends the same tags to just those customers. |
| N customer(s) had tags applied but no customer event could be written. … | The tags were changed, but the customer event could not be saved. The change was recorded in the System Event Log instead. |
| A report already runs this query: name (#ID). | A custom report for the same tag selection already exists. Use that one. |
| The number beside a tag looks out of date | Counts are worked out when the page loads. Reload the page. |
