Powercode includes a set of built-in AI features that can clean up and draft text, summarize trouble tickets, explain equipment problems, and build custom reports from a plain-English description. The features work with your choice of AI provider — Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or Google Gemini — using either a company-wide API key or a user's personal key.
Everything is off by default. No AI buttons appear anywhere, and nothing is ever sent to an AI provider, until an administrator turns on the master switch and saves a provider API key on the AI Providers page.
| Feature | Where you'll see it | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| AI writing assistant | An AI menu in rich-text editors (ticket replies, customer emails, mass notifications, templates) and on call log notes | Using the AI Assistant |
| Ticket AI actions | An AI Actions menu on trouble tickets: Summarize ticket, Suggest response, Identify next steps | Using the AI Assistant |
| Equipment status explanation | An Explain Status (AI) button on the equipment details page | Using the AI Assistant |
| AI Report Builder | A Create Report with AI button on the Reports dashboard, plus an Edit with AI icon on existing custom reports | AI Report Builder |
| AI Usage Report | Third Party > AI Usage Report — cost and usage telemetry for all AI calls | AI Usage Report |
The AI platform (providers, writing assistant, ticket and equipment actions, usage report) is available as of build 26.06.04. The AI Report Builder requires build 26.10.05 or later.
Three things must all be true before a user sees any AI feature:
See AI Providers for the full setup walkthrough.
Five permissions are added under Modules > AI in the permission group editor:
| Permission | What it grants |
|---|---|
| Use AI features | Required for every AI action in the portal. Without it, AI buttons simply don't appear. |
| Manage AI Settings | At View: access to the AI Usage Report. At Full: access to the AI Providers configuration page. |
| AI: Use Claude | Allows the user to call Anthropic Claude on the company (enterprise) API key. |
| AI: Use OpenAI | Allows the user to call OpenAI on the company (enterprise) API key. |
| AI: Use Gemini | Allows the user to call Google Gemini on the company (enterprise) API key. |
All five are granted to the Administrator and Owner groups by default. The per-provider permissions only apply when a user is on the company key — a user who brings their own key (see AI Providers) bypasses them.
AI actions also respect the permission of the page they live on: ticket AI actions require ticket access, the equipment explanation requires equipment access, and the AI Report Builder requires custom-report edit permission.
What leaves your server depends on the feature, and the distinction is worth understanding before you enable AI:
SELECT statement, and are capped at 1,000 rows.Spending on the company key is tracked per user per calendar month. You can set a default monthly cap (USD per user) and override it per permission group on the AI Providers page; a user who reaches their cap gets a clear "Monthly AI cap reached" message instead of a provider call. Users who bring their own API key are billed to their own provider account and are not subject to the caps. All spend — company and personal — is visible in the AI Usage Report.
