Requires Powercode build 26.10.05 or later.
The DHCP Log tab on Equipment Details shows one device's DHCP history, so you can answer "did this device get an address, which one, and when?" without logging in to the DHCP server. It has two parts:
Both come from a Link BMU. Other BMU types don't provide DHCP Log data.
Open the device's Equipment Details page, for example from the customer's Inventory tab, and click the DHCP Log tab.
The tab is shown when either of these is true:
The tab has no permission of its own. Anyone who can open Equipment Details can see it:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Equipment (Customer → Equipment) or Equipment (Network → Equipment), View | To open Equipment Details. Either one is enough. |
The lease history doesn't refresh while you're on the page. Reload the page to see new events.
Current Lease is built from the most recent lease event for the device. A badge shows Active or Ended, followed by the name of that event, for example Active — leases4_committed. The lease shows as Ended when the last event was an expire, release or decline, or when its expiry time has passed.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| IP Address | The address in the lease. |
| MAC Address | The hardware address the DHCP server saw. |
| Hostname | The hostname in the lease, if the device sent one. |
| Last Renewed | When the lease was last granted or renewed, with how long ago. |
| Expires | When the lease runs out, with how long from now. |
If nothing has been recorded yet, the card says No lease events recorded yet.
The 100 most recent lease events for the device, newest first.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Time | When Powercode received the event, in your browser's local time, with how long ago. |
| Event | The event name sent by the DHCP server (see below). |
| IP Address | The address the event was about. |
| Family | IPv4 or IPv6. |
Event names start with lease4 or leases4 for IPv4 and lease6 or leases6 for IPv6. The part after the underscore says what happened:
| Event name ends in | What happened |
|---|---|
| _committed | The DHCP server handed out or confirmed the lease. |
| _renew | The device renewed its lease. |
| _rebind | (IPv6) The device rebound its lease. |
| _recover | A previously declined address was made available again. |
| _release | The device gave the address back. |
| _decline | The device refused the address. |
| _expire | The lease ran out. |
_release, _decline and _expire end the lease, so they show as Ended under Current Lease.
Click Fetch from BMU to read this device's recent DHCPv4 transactions from the Link's logs. Powercode searches the logs for the device's MAC address. If the device has no MAC address in Powercode, it searches for the last leased IP address instead. Up to 100 transactions are shown.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Time | When the transaction started, in your browser's local time. |
| Outcome | How the transaction ended, as reported by the Link. LEASED and COMPLETED show green. REFUSED, FAILED and DECLINED show red. Anything else shows grey. |
| Flow | The packets in the transaction, in order, separated by arrows. A repeated packet shows a count, for example x3. |
| Lease IP | The address handed out, if any. |
If there were more transactions than fit, you'll see Older transactions were omitted by the log tail limit. above the table.
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| There is no DHCP Log tab | The device's address ranges aren't on a Link BMU, and no lease events were ever recorded for it. |
| No lease events recorded yet. | The device hasn't had a lease event since lease events were set up, or the Link can't reach Powercode. Check Admin Portal URL on Config > System, look in the Link BMU's Event Log for Callback configuration incomplete, and save or synchronize the BMU to set lease events up again. Also check that the IP address assigned to the device in Powercode is the one it actually gets. |
| An error occurred while retrieving lease information. | The lease history couldn't be loaded. Switch to another tab and back to try again. |
| This device is not served by a PowerLink DHCP server | The device's address ranges are no longer on a Link BMU. The tab is still shown because older lease events exist. |
| No MAC address or lease IP available to filter the DHCP logs | The device has no MAC address in Powercode and no recorded lease to take an IP address from. Add the MAC address to the device. |
| No DHCP transactions found in the recent BMU logs. | The device hasn't sent a DHCPv4 request recently, or the MAC address in Powercode doesn't match the device. |
| An error occurred while contacting the BMU. | The request to fetch live transactions failed. Try again. |
| Older transactions were omitted by the log tail limit. | Not an error. Only the most recent transactions are shown. |
