Requires Powercode build 26.10.05 or later. Earlier builds have a simpler version of this page without the Every day after time, network filtering, group updates, NID restarts or the Health tab.
Trango Maintenance is where you keep the software on your Trango NIDs up to date. You upload software images to Powercode, choose the version every NID should run, and then update NIDs one at a time, a whole network site at once, or automatically during a quiet hour each day. You can also restart a NID from here, and each NID's own page has a Health tab that shows the switch port it is plugged into.
It works with equipment whose device type uses the Trango NID monitoring tool. See Trango NID for setting that up. Powercode talks to each NID's web interface over HTTP at the NID's IP address, signing in with the Admin Username and Admin Password on the device's Trango NID tab. Powercode has to be able to reach that address for anything on this page to work.
Third Party > Trango Maintenance.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Canopy Configuration (System → Third Party Integration), at Edit | To open Trango Maintenance. Despite its name, this is the permission the page checks. |
| Equipment (Customer → Equipment or Network → Equipment), at View | To open a NID's own page, with its Trango NID and Health tabs. |
| Parent (Equipment → Equipment), at View | The Health tab only finds the switch port for users who can also see the Parent/Child tab. |
The Trango Maintenance menu entry is shown to everyone. Without Canopy Configuration, opening it shows Access Denied.
The three cards at the top of the page hold the software images Powercode keeps for your NIDs.
v followed by the version, for example nid_v1.2.3.mfi, the version is filled in for you. Otherwise you see Version not found. Please specify the version manually. and type the version yourself. It can contain only numbers and dots.An image is deleted as soon as you click the trash button. There is no confirmation.
The primary software has no delete button. To replace it, upload a new primary image or choose another image with Use as Primary.
The table at the bottom of the page lists every Trango NID in Powercode. Use the table's search box to find a NID.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| (checkbox) | Selects the NID for Update Selected. The checkbox in the header selects every NID on the current page. |
| Device Name | The NID's name. Click it to open the NID's page. |
| Customer / Network | The network site or customer the NID belongs to, linked to its page. |
| Status | The NID's monitoring status. |
| IP Helper | The IP helper address from the NID's Trango NID tab, with a copy button. |
| IP Address | The NID's IP address, with a copy button. |
| Subnet Mask | The subnet mask of the NID's address range, with a copy button. |
| Version | The software version the NID last reported. |
| Firmware Status | The last firmware status Powercode got from the NID: idle when nothing is happening, a progress message during an update, or an error if Powercode could not reach the NID. N/A until Powercode has checked it. |
| Pending Update | Yes while the NID is waiting to be updated to the primary software. See Selected NIDs or a whole network site below. |
| Uptime | A date and time worked out from the uptime the NID reports: roughly when it last started. N/A if unknown. |
| NID | The host name Powercode gave the NID, built from its MAC address. |
| (buttons) | The info button opens the NID's software dialog. The circular-arrows button restarts the NID. |
Use Networks above the table to narrow the list:
Only network sites that have Trango NIDs are listed.
If the NID is already busy, for example with another update, the update does not start and the dialog shows the NID's current status instead.
Both show The device(s) is pending an update and set Pending Update to Yes. Nothing is updated straight away. On its next check, within 20 minutes, Powercode updates each marked NID that runs an older version than the primary software. This happens at any time of day, whether or not Automatically Update is on. When Powercode confirms the update, Pending Update goes back to No.
Every day, in the hour after that time, Powercode updates each NID that runs an older version than the primary software. Choose a quiet hour, such as overnight.
Turn Automatically Update off to stop the daily updates. Update Selected, Update in Network and single-NID updates still work while it is off.
A NID's own page has a Health tab next to its Trango NID tab. It shows the switch port the NID is plugged into, as seen from the switch. None of its readings come from the NID itself. The optical readings are from the switch's SFP.
Powercode finds the port by matching the NID's MAC address against the MAC addresses its SNMP polling has learned on your switches' ports. The tab only has information when the NID is connected to a switch that Powercode polls over SNMP.
The tab shows:
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Access Denied when opening Trango Maintenance | You are missing Canopy Configuration (System → Third Party Integration) at Edit. |
A NID's Log tab fills up with Invalid automatically update time. Go to Trango Maintenance page and set time |
Automatically Update is on but no valid Every day after time is saved. Choose a time and click Save, or turn Automatically Update off. Until you do, the message is logged on every NID every 20 minutes. |
| Firmware Status shows a message starting with Error: | Powercode could not reach the NID's web interface, or the Admin Username and Admin Password on the NID's Trango NID tab are wrong. |
| Update to Primary Software is missing from the NID's dialog | The NID already runs the primary version or newer, or no primary software is set. |
| Version not found. Please specify the version manually. | The version could not be read from the file name. Type it into Version. |
| Invalid image version when uploading | The version contains something other than numbers and dots. |
| Select an image. | You clicked Upload without choosing a file. |
| Please select network | You clicked Update in Network with -- Customer Equipment -- selected. Pick a network site. |
| Pending Update stays at Yes | See Limitations. Also check the NID's Log tab. If it shows Update applied but could not confirm new version within timeout., Powercode tries again on its next check. |
| Failed to start the restart process | The NID did not accept the restart. Check that Powercode can reach it and that its admin username and password are right. |
| Operation timed out. in the update or restart dialog | The NID stopped answering before it reported back. It may still be updating or restarting. Check its Version or Status again in a few minutes. |
| The Health tab shows Could not to load information. | Powercode has not matched the NID to a port on a switch it polls over SNMP, or you are missing Parent (Equipment → Equipment) at View. |
| The Health tab shows Could not to load model definition. | Powercode's SNMP polling does not have a model definition for the switch the NID is connected to. |
